Nanocrystal and surface alloy properties of bimetallic Gold-Platinum nanoparticles

We report on the correlation between the nanocrystal and surface alloy properties with the bimetallic composition of gold-platinum(AuPt) nanoparticles. The fundamental understanding of whether the AuPt nanocrystal core is alloyed or phasesegregated and how the surface binding properties are correlated with the nanoscale bimetallic properties is important not only for the exploitation of catalyt...

Combination of supported bimetallic rhodium–molybdenum catalyst and cerium oxide for hydrogenation of amide

Hydrogenation of cyclohexanecarboxamide to aminomethylcyclohexane was conducted with silica-supported bimetallic catalysts composed of noble metal and group 6-7 elements. The combination of rhodium and molybdenum with molar ratio of 1:1 showed the highest activity. The effect of addition of various metal oxides was investigated on the catalysis of Rh-MoO x /SiO2, and the addition of CeO2 much i...

Synthesis of Bimetallic Platinum Nanoparticles for Biosensors

The use of magnetic nanomaterials in biosensing applications is growing as a consequence of their remarkable properties; but controlling the composition and shape of metallic nanoalloys is problematic when more than one precursor is required for wet chemistry synthesis. We have developed a successful simultaneous reduction method for preparation of near-spherical platinum-based nanoalloys conta...

Polymer-functionalized platinum-on-gold bimetallic nanorods.

Physical and chemical properties of nanosized crystals are known to be a function of their size, morphology, and chemical composition. Hence, over the past decade many research groups have focused on controlling the shape of inorganic nanostructures, and many low-symmetry nanocrystals have been produced. In this respect, one-dimensional structures are particularly interesting objects whose opti...

A MCM-41-supported platinum carbonyl cluster-derived asymmetric hydrogenation catalyst

Anionic platinum carbonyl cluster has been ion paired with cinchonidium groups that are chemically bound to the surface of MCM-41 and fumed silica. In the hydrogenation of methyl pyruvate or acetophenone the fumed silica-based catalyst gives zero enantioselectivity, but under optimum conditions enantiomeric excesses of > 90 and ∼ 40%, respectively, are obtained with the MCM-41-based catalyst.
